Turkish Airlines flies from more than eleven German airports via its Istanbul hub to destinations all over the world – and is one of the more generous airlines when it comes to hand luggage. In our guide you will find all the current Turkish Airlines hand luggage rules 2026 – the dimensions and weights for Economy and Business, the personal item, and the new power bank rules.

Turkish Airlines hand luggage 2026 – the rules at a glance

At Turkish Airlines, the number of hand luggage pieces depends on the travel class – but the dimensions and weights are the same across all Economy fares. In addition, you may bring a small personal item in every class.

1. The hand luggage piece

2. The personal item

  • Dimensions: 40 × 30 × 15 cm, max. 4 kg
  • Allowed in every class in addition
  • Stowage: under the seat in front of you
  • Suitable options: underseater bags, small shoulder bags or compact backpacks

Good to know: On flights to the USA, due to the TSA rules only one hand luggage piece plus one personal item may pass through security – the second Business hand luggage piece is then checked in free of charge.

Power banks and lithium batteries at Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines has – like many airlines in 2026 – tightened the rules for lithium batteries:

  • Only in hand luggage – never in checked baggage; within easy reach under the seat in front of you, not in the overhead bin
  • A maximum of 2 power banks per person, up to 100 Wh each; 100–160 Wh only with approval, over 160 Wh prohibited
  • Use and charging on board prohibited
  • Smart luggage with a permanently installed, non-removable battery is not allowed

You will find more background and the mAh-to-Wh conversion in the guide Power bank in hand luggage.

Gate fee & excess baggage

Hand luggage that does not comply with the rules is loaded into the cargo hold at the gate for a fee. For checked baggage the following applies: individual pieces with linear dimensions (W+H+D) between 158 and 292 cm are considered oversized and cost extra (from approx. 90 USD on international routes). Tip: Have your hand luggage checked and tagged at check-in.

Liquids in Turkish Airlines hand luggage

As everywhere, the international liquid rules apply: individual containers of a maximum of 100 ml, all together in a transparent 1-litre bag. Read more in the guide Liquids in hand luggage – and you can find the right travel pouch with us.

5 tips for your Turkish Airlines hand luggage

  1. Use the personal item: In addition to the trolley, 40 × 30 × 15 cm are allowed – ideal for a laptop, power bank and travel documents.
  2. Pack to size: Better a 55 × 40 × 23 cm suitcase than one that bursts at the seams.
  3. Mind USA flights: Here only one piece of hand luggage plus a personal item counts through security.
  4. Choose a lightweight suitcase: Every kilo of empty weight is deducted from the 8 kg limit. Modern cabin baggage suitcases often weigh under 2.5 kg.
  5. Connecting flights: For connecting flights with other airlines, the tightest dimensions may apply – when in doubt, follow the stricter requirement.
